Budget Cut
The Rappahannock News incorrectly reported in last week’s issue that the Board of Supervisors had not cut the Welfare Department’s funding request, as printed in the preliminary county budget for 1979-80.
The Supervisors reduced the Welfare budget by $9,290—the approximate salary of one additional social worker. The cut brings the total public assistance budget to $171,988, a decrease of $7,950 from the current year.
“I am concerned about the county’s decreasing support,” stated Welfare Department Director Elizabeth Buntin. "It will make any future increase look bad by comparison, especially with inflation,” she said.
The Supervisors will take final action on Welfare expenditures and the rest of the county’s budget for 197980 following a public hearing scheduled for Friday, June 22, at 10 a.m. in the court house.
