At their June 12 meeting, Rappahannock School Board members agreed on a list of projects to receive top priority for funding with money left over from the current budget.
“I’ve never been a believer in balloon spending at the end of the fiscal year but it appears that all the expenditures either are needed or are a good investment,” remarked board member Paul Nichols.
The fiscal year ends June 30. Without specific authorization from the Board of Supervisors, funds left over in the current fiscal year’s school budget cannot be carried over to the 1979-80 school year and must instead be returned to the county’s general fund.
According to Superintendent William Bloomer, aproximately $50,000 was unspent and uncommitted as of June 12. Categories with a substantial balance include teacher salaries and summer school. The surplus in salaries results from replacing experienced teachers with first or second

Meeting
The Rappahannock School Board will hold its final “pay out” meeting on Tuesday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school library. At the last session in the current fiscal year, the School Board will make a final determination on what projects to fund with money left over from the 1978-79 budget.
