My second question concerns zoning administration in the county. Since I am not sure where the town jurisdiction ends, I am concerned about any zoning changes in properties close to the town. At a recent public hearing the applicant applied for one change, the Zoning Administrator advertised for something different and the Planning Commission ' notified the adjacent landowners of still something else. My question is this, should not one person (preferably the administrator) be in charge of the whole process? If he is in charge, then why the discrepancies, and if he is not, then who is in charge?
A great deal of confusion seems to have arisen at the same recent hearing due to the fact that physical changes have occurred in the county due to the expansion of Route 211. I would like to suggest that the zoning maps be brought up to date so as to reflect the current status of affected properties. My requests are designed only to standardize zoning in the county and hopefully eliminate confusion as to who may^ do what and where. We would like to thank all of the 270 people who joined with us in signing the petition supporting the first capital outlay proposal for an addition at the Rappahannock County High School. This proposal included ten classrooms, expanded facilities for library, restrooms, cafeteria, office and storage space, a greenhouse and horticulture classroom.
As we stated in the petition, we believe our children’s future depends upon the educational background they receive in the county school system and should be the highest priority on the list of county funding.' This petition was given J. Richard Latham, Supervisor for Jackson District, with a copy to Mrs. Beverly Massie, the school board representative for that district. We would like to urge all of you whom we did not see to join with us in supporting the proposed building program by calling or writing one or both of the above representatives for our district. Our elected and appointed officials can only represent us if we make our views known. So act today! Call or write. Our schools and county needs you. We are grateful for all the encouragement and support we have already received.
