money alone will not help. What is needed is a community with a positive attitude toward the administration, faculty and students.
I definitely agree that student respect is necessary. This respect for property and for others cannot be taught completely at school, though. Excluding after-school activities, teachers see their students approximately 50 minutes each day for ten months. The administration is hardly able to come into constant contact with students any more than this. Thus, the burden falls upon everyone in this community to teach the children respect for all things.
But can you really expect high school students to “look up” to those who publicly accuse the administration of not having respect for their own school property? How can anyone hope to find guidance in those who ‘‘foretell” the students' future and have no respect in their standards or values? 1 find it insulting that someone feels students will “wind up in the pool hall, snorting Canadian whiskey, and doing dope.” Personally I have far more respect for my former students.
It is age-old advice, but county citizens need to stop complaining and begin working with the school. The administration, faculty, and students need your respect—show them that you care.
