By a three or two vote, the School Board agreed to set its own priorities on funding projects. Board members Paul Nichols and Arthlinda Quaintance were opposed, suggesting instead that Superintendent Bloomer decide where the money should be spent.
The Board members unanimously ranked furniture (including desks, for the music department, home economics tables, storage cabinets, kindergarten trays and racks), roofing, painting and heating controls for the elementary school building and purchase of special education tests as top prioity. In addition, they agreed unanimously to purchase oil. gas and coal to fill bins and tanks before the cloe of the fiscal year and to pay for text books and art supplies ordered for next year, with this year’s left over money. Bloomer noted that the books and supplies had already arrived from the manufacturers.
In a split vote, with Walter Masterson and Alan Stokes opposed, the board also gave priority to reimbursing both the elementary and high school for extra supplies, paying for four days of secretarial assistance to complete special education forms and reimbursing the high school athletic department for the cost of the new chain link fence around the baseball field.
