Rappahannock’s varsity baseball team is in an end-ofseason slump, losing five out of their last five games.
On last Friday, May 5, the Panthers kept even with the Madison Mountaineers until the final innings before they bowed, 6-4.
Madison scored first and then the Panthers had an opportunity to use their bats. Tony Way land started off with a walk and Jeff Jenkins got things rolling when he smashed a triple to score Wayland. Gary Leake hit a sacrifice bunt to bring Jenkins in and put the score at 2-1 in Rappahannock’s favor.
Madison came back with two in the second inning. Then in the fourth. Pops Aylor hit a single and stole second. Gary Jenkins sent him home with a single and then Jenkins advanced to third as Tony Armentrout got on base through an error.
