After earning the right to advance with strong performances in the Skyline District track meet at James Madison University, RCHS varsity girls finished 4th out of 18 teams competing in last Friday's regional competition at Fluvanna County High School.
Some of the girls placed well enough at the earlier Skyline District meet to qualify directly for state competition. But even though they were assured of the chance at statewide contests, they went all out in Fluvanna on May 9.
The strongest performer was Johanna Day who placed second at both meets in the high jump, clearing 5’2” at the district and 5’0” at the regionals. She also was fourth in the 880 with a time of 2:32.9 at the district meet and improved her run to 2:29.8 at the regionals, again placing fourth.
