Masterson reported on work at a McLean elementary school done by KDA. The school has an entire wing with no walls, large portways instead of doors, recessed ceilings to collect noise and carpeted floors with half the windows closed up, he said. “There were 500 children in one area and there was no sound,” Masterson said, noting that instructors followed team teaching techniques. Learning disabled students are in a separate wing, he added.
Masterson reported that moveable walls which take approximately three hours to put up allow flexibility and maximum space utilization. He also noted that students in the McLean schools’ “open concept” wing work around tables in groups rather than in standard desks.
