At the suggestion of East ham, the board members agreed to visit the school with a representative of the Reston architectural firm. Noting that the high school has the most citical space needs, Charles Eldred asked if the open concept approach was applicable for secondary schools.
Drenning acknowledged that his firm- had not done similar renovation work at a high school but said that an employee with KDA had experience in that area.
Eldred asked if team teaching was used generally at the high school level.
Superintendent William Bloomer responded that team teaching was employed more on the primary level. He added that the trend, even in primary grades, is away from the open classroom concept so popular just a few yean ago and back towards traditional approaches to education. “They’re putting the walls back in.”
