Regarding the estimate on per gallon cost of gasoline, Eastham maintained that the supervisors, not the school board, should take action to lower the projection by cutting the budget themselves. “If Col. Luke wants to get the vote of the board of supervisors cutting the transportation category and assume responsibility for the guess, I, as one board member, would be most willing to listen.” He acknowledged, however, that the board’s estimate may •have been a little high.
Eldred noted that he didn’t feel it necessary for the supervisors to act officially in order for the school board to make budget adjustments. After a lengthy discussion but with no vote, the board reached a majority consensus to ask the supervisors how much they wanted cut from the transportation budget.
