Wakefield School held an induction ceremony September 24 for its 1980 Council of Prefects. The 32 new prefects, elected by the student body and representative of all grades, took an oath to uphold the honor code, enforce school rules and conduct and represent the student body.
The Wakefield Council of Prefects is an honored body of students empowered to investigate breaches of conduct and to make recommendations for suitable disciplinary action.
The system of prefects follows the centuries old example of the English prefect system still used in the schools of England. At Wakefield a new slate of prefects is elected each fall on the basis of leadership and character.
The system is an opportunity for students as early as first grade to develop leadership skills. Each year the Wakefield Leadership Award is presented to a member of the
