After taking 20 steps back when construction estimates came in SI million over original cost projections. Sperryville’s long awaited sewer system has inched closer to reality with recent approval from the State Water Control Board for a new feasibility study.
According to Maury Biddle, chairman of the Rappahannock Water and Sewer Authority, the State Water Control Board (SWCB) has informed the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Housing and Urban. Development (HUD) that the newest plan for Sperryville’s sewer system meets all state regulations.
In response, said Biddle. HUD has agreed to finance part of the system with the balance expected to be picked up by EPA. Biddle said that final word from EPA is anticipated within two weeks.
Plans went back to the drawing board last April when construction costs for the double lagoon facility and collection system climbed from S8S0.000 to S2.3 million within three years.
