Club served a record number of people when the Lions District 24-A mobile Sight and Hearing Screening van visited the county last month.
Lions club President Bob Ingle announced that 422 county residents were given vision and hearing tests. The screening unit was parked on successive days at the county elementary school, high school, Wakefield School, and at the Episcopal Church lot in Washington, Va., March 23-28. The previous year’s total was 230 tests.
This year, at the three schools, a total of 399 students and other school personnel were tested. Of these, 148 showed signs of vision impairment and 12 displayed hearing difficulties, and were referred to their physicians for further examination.

Spring Event
The Washington Baptist Church will have their annual Spring Event on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 11 a.m. concurrent with the Fodderstack classic race.
Hot lunches will be served' and there will be other features including a plant sale, odds and ends sale and a bake sale. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and the public is invited.
