In average salaries paid classroom teachers, Rappahannock also lagged behind the state average and the other four counties in the planning district, both in the amount paid and the per cent of increase over the previous year’s pay.
The average salary paid a classroom teacher in Rappahannock was $10,866 in 1979-80. up two per cent from the 1978-79’s average salary of $10,648. The average salary in Culpeper rose 4.2 per cent to $12,111; in Fauquier 7.7 per cent to $13,368 and in Orange two per cent to $11,539. The average salary paid in Madison County in 1979-80 dropped by 3.7 per cent to $11,097.
