When land use taxation began, Clarke County charged an application fee of $5 but raised it this year to S2S with an added renewal fee of $5 every six years. “$5 didn’t cover the cost of administration,” Rhoden acknowledged. ‘‘We’re hoping S25 will.”

On Monday, April 20, at 10 p.m., the Rappahannock supervisors will hold a special public hearing on the proposed school budget for 1981-82. Following the hearing, the supervisors will decide on the specifics to include in a land use taxation ordinance which will be advertised for public hearing.
Under state enabling legislation, localities may choose any or all of the four categories of land — agricultural, horticultural, fbrestal and open space—as eligible for preferential tax treatment. In addition, local government has the option of deciding how much to charge as an application fee and whether to charge a periodical revalidation fee as well.
