Culpeperfest
Munich has its OctoberfestN^io its Carnival, New Orleans its Mardi Gras and now'Gulpeper joins the festival circuit with its first Culpeperfest/'''' Billed as a time to "Celebrate a day in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge,” the festival, set for Sept. 22, will feature an unlimited feast, continuous entertainment and a wide variety of beverages for a single admittance ticket. On the menu of the Chamber of Commerce sponsored event are barbecued beef, Boston butts of pork, french fried sweet potatoes, baked beans and slaw. To aid the digestion there will be continuous entertainment by area bands and a dance troupe. Running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the festival will be held at scenic Mountain Run Lake Park about one mile south of Culpeper off U. S. 29. j Wharton Reunion
The annual reunion of the families of the late Sam, O'car. Ashby. Amos. Walter, Helen. Howard and Robert Wharton will be held on Sunday, August 8, at the Rappahannock Recreation Center near Wa'Hngton. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch, which will be served between 12 and 1 p.m.
Historical Society Picnic
The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its second annual picnic at Montpelier, the home of Bill Fletcher, on Rt. 231, south of Sperryville, on Friday, August 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Members will each bring a picnic supper to share.
Friday the 13th has historically been an UNlucky date for many people, but this month it promises to be a lucky occasion for members of the Rappahannock Historical Society. The guest speaker, Robert Jacobs, head of the Social Studies department at Fauquier High School, will give a slide lecture on Virginia during the 18th century.
The picnic and slide show are open to paid-up members of the society and their house guests only. Anyone who has not paid his dues for this year may do so at the door.
A short business meeting will cover the scheduling of a workday to clean the basement of the Historical Society building and securing bids to finish the basement and build a back patio. Historical Society president Helen Holschuh will outline the accomplishments of this summer.
