Susan Dodson, Roger Cordani, and Tommy Williams, all from Rappahannock, attended a 4-H Conservation Camp at Camp Farrar, Virginia Beach. They were chosen by Extension Agents. The session was to provide training important for increased appreciation and understanding for our natural resources. Mrs. Byrd Jones of Washington and Paul Nichols, Flint Hill, were reelected to represent Hampton and Wakefield Districts, respectively, on the Rappahannock County School Board. 10 YEARS AGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS
MRS. ELEANOR CORDLE had a bear appear in her kitchen looking for food. The bear had torn down the screen to get inside and found a can of bacon drippings which it licked clean. When Mrs. Cordle became award of the bear’s presence, it had begun to eat a can of peanuts. After a brief stay, the bear left without harming anyone. One of the first large roll balers to appear in Rappahannock was on Ted Triplett’s farm. Triplett bought the baler because it saved labor which is hard to come by and said he had found it satisfactory, but it took some getting used to. Mrs. James F. Massie of Amissville was named to the Rappahannock County School Board for a four-year term to represent Jackson District. She replaced Ralph H. MRS. MARY BOTTS Quaintance retired from her teaching position in the Rappahannock County School system after having served for 48 years. Since 1929 Mrs. Quaintance had taught 5th, 6th, i th and 8th grades as well as being principal of the elementary school. The Rappahannock County Welfare Board accepted the resignation of Becky Burke and asked for an emergency approval to have office assistant Nancy Reeve fill the position.
