The RappahannockRapidan Emergency Medical Services Council held its fourth annual dinner meeting at Graves Mountain Lodge on July 27.
Following the presentation of awards and brief reports. Dr. Kimball Maull spoke. Dr. Maull is director of the Center for Emergency and Trauma Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Paul Poling, president of EMS Council, emphasized that emergency medical services now depend on local people and county governments for support.
Susan D. McHenry, Director/Virginia Division of EMS at' Richmond, noted that local governments and individuals are becoming more involved with EMS. Even though the Virginia Rescue Squad Assistance funds have been reduced, rescue squads in our area have received funds based on their needs.
Delegate George Beard expressed his continued commitment to EMS and will be co-fostering the establishment of a second State fund for EMS financial assistance.
From State funds. Delegate Beard presented a $20.000 award to James Davidson to assist the Marshall Volunteer Rescue Squad Company purchase a Basic Life Support vehicle.
Kenneth Pullen accepted the same award for the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Dept, .and Rescue Squad. It will help purchase an Advanced Life Support ambulance, the first for Rappahannock County. Yearly, the EMS Council recognizes those individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to EMS. Nominations came from all areas of the system, including rescue squads, hospitals, the EMS Council and the public.
