The next award went to Mrs. Dorothy Skelton, Madison County consumer, for her contributions to the EMS Council. During 198182. she designed and produced an EMS bumper sticker, designed and wrote an EMS Council brochure, and wrote articles for six newspapers in PD 9.
The EMS Council’s final award went to four people for their outstanding service in the direct provision of emergency medical aid. Mrs. Mary Teele of Marshall suffered a heart attack while driving. Following her car ^ were Mrs. Betty Sanford and her husband, Donald. They realized something was wrong with Mrs. Teele. Donald Sanford, despite long years of severe arthritis, jumped out of their car, ran along side Mrs. Teele's car and got it stopped. Betty began mouth to mouth resuscitation. Another driver, Mrs. Ethel Heidt, parked her car and ran to help. She is a Fauquier Hospital EKG technician. She began CPR and was soon aided by Officer Billy Kerns. Warrenton Police Dept. Mrs. Heidt monitored Mrs. Teele in the ambulance going back to Fauquier Hospital. They all visited Mrs. Teele during her recovery.
John Capelle, Executive Director of PD 9, conducted the election of 1982-83 EMS Council directors and officers. Board members elected were Rodger Baker. James Peyton. Paul Poling. Mary Quaintance, Dorothy Skelton and Joseph Stevens. The officers will be Paul Poling, president, Joseph Stevens, vice-president; James Peyton, secretary; and H. J. Bond Jr., treasurer.
