Staunton. Va., to come, and he was anxious to go. Here commenced my fifth trouble. I thought it would kill me to part with him. In vain did I plead with him night and day not to go but it did no good. As the time drew near for him to leave, it troubled me so, 1 could not work, although I was hired by the year. Mother seemed to be willing for William to go. I really was fretted with her. I thought if she had persuaded him as I did, he certainly would have given it up. The morning soon arrived for him to leave. Mr. John Burke, with whom I was living, went with him.
I was very much troubled after they left, and could do no work. 1 went to work the next day with a broken heart; I longed for the time to come when Mr. Burke was to return home for 1 thought I would hear something of the place. When he came he gave a grand description of the place and people, and said he left William in high spirits; this relieved me a great deal. I received a letter within four weeks; he said heart could not wish to be in a better place than he was. and he would be perfectly happy if he knew that I had gotten reconciled.
