Scatter annual popp.v seeds in flower beds or borders. The fine seed needs no covering. The plants grow rapidly and provide colorful flowers in early summer.

Prune roses just before growth starts to produce the size of blooms you desire. If large exhibition blooms are desired, cut canes back to about '/2 their original length. If a larger number of smaller flowers are wanted, cut the canes back to about twothirds or three-fourths their original length. Cover the cut end of each cane w ith wound dressing to prevent entrance of Carpenter bees.
Scatter some radish seeds thinly along the row when planting carrots, beets, and parsnips. The radishes will come up quickly and mark the row. They will reach edible size in about 3 weeks and can be removed to provide space for the slowermaturing crops.
Inorganic fertilizers are those such as the 5-10-5 which you buy at your local garden center or store. These chemical compounds dissolve quite rapidly in moist soil in either warm or cold weather. The released nutrients are readily available for plants. This is an economical type of fertilizer which may be used when the garden is planted, or as a sidedressing during the summer. Heavy applications may burn the roots of young plants.
