And then there was the property damage, says Virginia - State Police Sergeant M. G. Millner. Two sections of fence and several gates were destroyed during the Dukes-of-Hazzard-style chase as were Liles’ crumpled white and maroon 4-wheeler and one of its oversized, deep-tread tires.
The chase over, authorities still had their problems.
The subject was only partially dressed, says Sgt. Millner. He wore a shirt, vest, underpants, and possibly one shoe. But there was no wallet.
Identifying the 31-year-old took four hours, says Sergeant Millner. Finally his live-in girlfriend gave police his name.
Sergeant Millner did confirm shots were fired in an attempt to stop the Bronco adding they were not fired by any State Trooper. By press time Wednesday Fauquier. Warren, and Clarke County Sheriffs' Department spokesmen denied their deputies fired at all. However Prince William county police Sergeant James Weakland said Officer Dennis Thompson did fire one shot at the Bronco after Officer Williams was injured. At least six shots appear to have been fired.
