Visitors to Kauai, one of the lesser-known Hawaiian Islands, may be surprised to find that the scenery there looks familiar. Kauai's tropical-paradise setting provided the location for the filming of South Pacific and, more recently, King Kong and Islands in the Stream.

Kauai is about as close to an unspoiled, serene tropical island as exists in these days of stepped-up tourism. Sandscalloped bays and abundant flora await the increasing number of visitors to Hawaii's Garden Isle. Kauai's many scenic rivers are fed by the 486 inches of annual rainfall on Mount Wailaleale. the wettest spot on earth.
