At that point, says Sgt. Millner, Liles took a sidetrip through a fence and into a cow pasture. For about 20 minutes he charged around the field. A third Prince William County Police vehicle, following the fourwheel drive Bronco into thp field. was rendered inoperable when it went into a ditch.
Liles' alleged pastoral pursuits continued when he left the first field (crashing through another section of the same fence), crossed the road, burst through another fence and into another field. He hurtled through that field to the probable amazement of onlooking cows.
State Trooper Injured
Minutes later Virginia State Trooper E Baiun lost control of his cruiser when Liles foiled yet one more attempt to stop him on Route 17 near the Route 55 interchange. Trooper Baiun suffered minor neck injuries when his vehicle left the road, rolled, and hit a pole, Sgt. Millner says. He was treated and released from Warren County Hospital, Front Royal.
After a foray through private driveways near Route 17 with the relentless Trooper Hodges in pursuit. Liles allegedly returned to Route 17 and sped toward Paris. Fauquier County Sheriff s Deputies Glenn Bracey and Sam Stalls followed him along Route 50 across Paris Mountain and into Clarke County. When they came back it was with $2,000 damage to their cruiser, according to Sheriff Luther Cox.
