The first year varsity coach attended Ferrum College and then transfered to the University of Virginia, graduating from the ACC's newest basketball powerhouse in 1982. During his senior year, he was assistant varsity coach at William Monroe, his high school alma mater, and directed both the boys and girls eighth grade teams there.
Rappahannock starts the season on Wednesday at home against "double A” Warren County High School. “That should give us a good test,” the new coach noted. Then next Tuesday, December 7, RCHS takes on “single A” William Monroe, “probably the best team we’ll face all year,” Dawson acknowledged.
But if anybody can get Rappahannock ready to be Dragon killers, it’s Dawson. Look for the RCHS coach to trade the Panthers claws in for lances and armor and to have the Dragons huffing and puffing instead of flaming as he begins the quest for the Bull Run basketball cfown.
