Shenandoah National Park is conducting a three-year research project on the ecology and movement of the black bear population within and near the Park, according to Park Superintendent Robert Jacobsen.

Several bears have been equipped with radio trans mitter collars which con tinually signal their location. Other bears are “sporting” small yellow ear tags. Researchers from Virginia Polytechnic Institute closely monitor the movements and habits of these sample animals. Sportsmen hunting near the Park and who bag one of these marked bears are requested to report tjie kill to Park Headquarters at 703
