The only noticeable differences between the two boots, other than price, a leather sole on the more expensive one, obviously less useful, and an inner lining of tanned cowhide. I could never understand the need for inner liners, unless one regularly went without socks.
1 am sticking with my old boots, 1 hope, for at least one more season, out of respect, not just for their service to me. which I know about, but because of their further reputation, as I have picked the word from more experienced users, fully waterproof, if enough mink grease is used, (even some of the synthetic leather preservers will work) proof against snake fangs, obviously against briars and wild black-berry thorns, hedge roses and spurs of young locust, and barbed wire. Protection too, although not to be relied upon too often, against the tteth of errant chain saws, axe, dog bite and even hog bites.
I was tempted to buy a second pair, to be kept in waiting, but to do so seemed, if not dishonest, at least, as indicating lack of faith or loyalty.
I will stay with my boots, as the deacon did with the famous one-horse shay, expecting them to disintegrate, totally, on completing their life’s span. Then 1 will buy.another pair, certain that a boot of such merits will survive changing styles, politics. even civilizations.
