The staff of 20 from the highway department’s maintenance shop in Washington had trucks out around the clock from Thursday evening through Saturday night, working to keep roads open. Crews continued to plow and sand from Sunday until Tuesday afternoon. “And I expect we’ll have some men out tonight (Tuesday) too,” Dodson reported.
Dual-lane Route 211 was passable—if barely— through most of Friday’s storm, Dodson said. It was closed completely for only about an hour around 4 p.m. when cars stuck on the road prevented highway department trucks from passing.
