Sperry vules Volunteer Fire Department answered a call early Friday morning at Mack Nicholson’s residence on Eldon Farms near Woodville, according to Steve Leake. “We never did get the trucks all the way to it. We couldn’t get within a mile. We had to use a fourwheel drive tractor and when we got to the house, Mrs. Nicholson had the fire out,” he said. Leake added that the woman had broken through the chimney with an axe and tossed water on the blaze when it appeared that the fir£ department wouldn’t fie able to reach the site. “If she hadn’t had the good sense to do that, the whole house could have gone up.”
