OS HA Report
Superintendent Robert Estabrook addressed safety violations at the bus shop cited by an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspectolr. The violation8(no tire safety cage, open pulleys, holes in the floor and more) were either corrected by the school administration or deemed by the inspector not important enough to correct before the construction of a new facility, Estabrook said.
Warrants
Before voting to pay the warrants, Eastham proposed that there be a cut-off date for warrants approved by the board at each month’s meeting. “We don’t have time to review them properly," the Wakefield board members aid. “If you could include the warrants in the packets we receive a week before the meeting then we could properly study them.”
The concensus of the board was to do as Eastham recommended.
Pop Quiz Request
James Dennis, member of the victorious RCHS pop quiz team, appeared before the board with a request for transportation to and from future matches. He also thanked some of those who had helped the winning team in various ways: Glenn Davis for the use of the buzzer board; sponsors Cindy Wayland, Roger Flinchum and Brion Patterson, Principal Robert Chappell, and all those who provided practice for the team.
School board members granted Dennis’s request and each one in turn congratulated him and his teammates for their success.
SCC Upholds
Centel Hike
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) has determined that a temporary rate increase of $2.2 million authorized last September for the Central Telephone Co. of Virginia is fair and reasonable and shall be allowed to remain in effect.
The Commission in September denied an additional $3 million annual hike that had been sought by the company. In addition, the SCC sliced $25,000 from the original request of the company, reducing the surcharge percent by which it is being collected from 5.77 percent to 5.7 percent.
Centel, with headquarters in Charlottesville, serves about 165,000 customers in 30 Virginia counties. Its service in Rappahannock includes the town of Washington, Flint Hill, Huntly and Chester Gap. r
