NEW PIK PROGRAM Secretary of Agriculture John Block recently announced details of a voluntary program whereby producers will be offered an amount of commodity as a payment-in-kind (PIK) for reducing acreage beyond what is called for in the 1983 acreage reduction and paid land diversion programs.
PIK offers a three-fold objective: (1) reduce production, (2) reduce surplus stock holdings, and (3) avoid increased budget outlays. Signup period for PIK ends March 11, 1983.
You must be enrolled in the Acreage Reduction Program (ARP) in order to enroll for PIK.
Producers may choose to participate in PIK under two options: (1) Percent of Base PIK - Agreeing to set aside an additional 10 to 30
