The commission is a voluntary association of local governments designed to promote regional cooperation and provide regional and local planning assistance to local governments in plan-, ning district nine.
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission under the direction of local elected officials has been involved in land use planning, historic preservation activities, water quality planning, transportation planning, economic development coordination, recreation plans, criminal justice and youth services planning, and a wide range of other activities in the five-county area.
Rappahannock County representatives on the PDC board include J. Richard Latham and Colonel E. P. Luke.
