Governor Charles S. Robb in a letter to chairman John B. Adams offered his congratulations to the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission upon its tenth anniversary.
The governor stated, “Your efforts in providing needed services to your local governments during this period are commendable.”
The PD9 commission was chartered in January, 1973 by Fauquier, Orange, and Rappahannock counties and the town of Warrenton and became fully operational in‘ September, 1973, when the first staff was hired. In 1975 Culpeper and Madison Counties joined the commission with the town of Culpeper following in 1978. Under new authorizing legislation both the towns of Orange and Gordonsville joined in 1982.
