Wayne Cilimberg, executive director of thie Planning District Nine Commission (PD9), reported the findings of a reassessment feasibility study to the Board of Supervisors during its regular meeting June 3. Two people from Rappahannock County were on the committee that conducted the study: Supervisor Richard Latham and Merle Scroggin.
The purpose of the study was to determine the potential for a regional approach to reassessment in PD9, which includes Rappahannock, Fauquier, Culpeper, Madison and Orange Counties.
After four private assessment firms responded to a questionnaire sent out by the committee, it was determined that a regional approach would not provide “significant cost savings.” It turned out that Rappahannock County probably would have realized some saving by the regional approach, but since the other PD9 counties probably would not have, the committee declared the approach unfeasible.
