educational experience of our children, the funds that would be required to finance and maintain the proposed additions would be more wisely spent on ' teachers.
The supervisors should give this some serious thought. There is no question that good teachers with high morale are more important to education than good facilities. We regret being in the position of having to argue for one over the other - higher teachers’ pay over new facilities - when both are needed. But it seems realistic to assume that the county will not have, anytime soon, both attractive salaries for teachers and adequate facilities. In the meantime, then, we must choose between them.
Many good teachers have become so discouraged here that they have begun looking elsewhere for jobs. The county should be alarmed.
New facilities, more supplies, a modem gymnasium — these are all secondary to teachers. Put the money where it is needed the most.
