The Rappahannock Association >i the Arts and the Community (RAA )) recently received a $4,000 grant fr< m the Virginia Commission for the Ar s. RAAC was one of 72 arts organizations, 04 local governments, 10 colleges and 20 school districts to receive a grant.
The grants will support performances, art exhibitions, artist residencies and administrative salaries for arts organizations throughout the
state. RAAC will use its grant to pay a part of the director’s salary. The grants were awarded on the basis of artistic quality, management ability and need.
This is the. third year that RAAC has received a grant from the commission in the Support for New and Emerging Arts Organizations category.
RAAC will be eligible to apply for grants in that category for the next two years, and after that RAAC will have to apply in a different area.
RAAC applied for the grant on April 1, and representatives of the organization appeared before a commission panel to answer any questions about the application. “We were a little scared because the panel was pretty
hard on the groups before us, but they didn’t ask us very many questions and they told us we were doing a good job,” said Laurie Marshall, RAAC executive director.
The commission is the state agency charged with promoting the arts throughout the Commonwealth. Its funds come from the General Assembly of Virginia and the National Endowment for the Arts.
