Col. Luke of Sperryville criticised the supervisors for not having formulated a position on the budget. He said they have not discussed or considered particular line items. He thought there should have been more communication between School Superintendent Robert Estabrook and the supervisors. “The superintendent should go over the budget with the supervisors. Somebody has to go through the budget,” Luke declared. He urged the Board to do its homework and to meet everyday until the job is done. Supervisor Nelson Lane, after all citizens had spoken, said he appreciated all that was said. He admitted that the Board’s situation was a tough one and that he himself had “tremendous problems” with the budget. “The supervisors have not even addressed the budget yet; (now) it is based solely on requests.” He said the hiring of a county administrator could be a good or a bad thing, depending on the quality of the individual hired.
