The health and institutions committee will express the sense of the Silver-Haired Legislature concerning moneys saved in the deinstitutionalization process, vote on requiring payment of certain services through Medicaid, requiring licensing of home health agencies, establishing the Alzheimer’s and Related Diseases Support Fund and specifying certain requirements for nursing home licensure and sanctions for violations.
The housing and education committee will work to establish a joint subcommittee to study the housing needs of low-income families and individuals, request state and local education agencies to increase curricula designed for adults; promote intergenerational activities with curricula, establish the Virginia Low Cost Public Housing Conversion Authority, require local school boards to permit use of school property for senior recreational activities and provide procedures for the direct election of school board members.
The labor and commerce committee will propose a Constitutional amendment concerning the number and election of members of the State Corporation Commission, will study ways to create a Citizens Utility Board; penalties, establish special rate schedules for certain electric utility customers, require prompt payment of legitimate claims by health care insurers; penalties, provide for compensation of certain accidents under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
The social services committee will express the sense of the Silver-Haired Legislature concerning more state funds for in-home and long-term care services, urge the expansion of protective services for the aged and infirm, consider ways to establish licensure provisions for homes for adults, establish a visitors program for the elderly and establish adult day care for the elderly.
