Upcoming Events Settle reunion The fifth annual Settle family reunion will be held on Sept. 29 at the Rappahannock Park on Rt. 211 near Washington. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and/or a beverage. Everyone is welcome.
‘Clarence Darrow’ presented A one-man show about this “monumental giant of trial law” will be coming to the Gay St. Theatre of Washington on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. The play, orginally performed by Henry Fonda on Broadway, portrays Clarence Darrow’s battles in the courtroom as well as his personal life. ” It will be performed by Ted Eiland of Florida and is being produced by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, a non-profit, volunteer organization. Artists’ Forum meeting There will be a RAAC Artists’ Forum meeting on Sept. 13 at Blackwater Homestead beginning with a potluck supper at 7 p.m. The discussion will be led by Jeanne Drevas and will center around the showing of paintings by Robin Pemell and sculpture by Nol Tutnum and Claudia McCue. Call 987-8451 for information. Norman reunion The annual Norman reunion will be held Sept. 15 at the Rappahannock Recreation Park on Route 211 near Washington. Those attending are requested to bring a picnic lunch, which will be served around 1 p.m. All relatives and friends are invited! ‘McCabe and Mrs. Miller’ Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall and Michael Murphy star in this week’s RAAC feature, “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” rated PG. This modem classic is Robert Altman at his best. Using tum-ofthe-century Northwest America as his setting and his stock company of actors to populate a frontier town, Altman has created an understated, dream-like movie. The realities, hardships and lawlessness are all there, but the atmosphere and rhythm of the story hang in the mind like a dream. Warren Beatty is a cocky, small time gambler and Julie Christie an ambitious madam; the two merge their businesses to take advantage of the need for diversion in this bleak landscape. The movie will be shown on Sept. 14 and 15 in the Gay St. Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
