25 YEARS AGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS From the Sept. 12, 1960 edition
Rappahannock County was
burglarized last week and was considered to be related to a crime wave which has been threatening the county in recent weeks.
Thieves got away with about $70 in cash by breaking a classroom window on the back of the building to gain entry.
Once inside, they tried to force open the door of the principal’s office without success, so proceeded to break the glass window in the adjoining office and ransacked files and desks in both offices.
According to school janitor Alvin Atkins, the crime was committeed sometime after 9 p.m., when he left for the night.
The same night, Sperryville Elementary School was also broken into but nothing was taken, as far as could be determined.
Torrential rains beat down Sunday afternoon in the wake of a hurricane which lashed the southern portion of the country.
No damage was reported locally, but streams flooded their banks.
20 YEARS AGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS From the Sept. 16, 1965 edition
Walter Latham of Viewtown
was recovering in his home this week after being hospitalized last week from bumble bee stings.
He got into the bees’ nest Thursday while working at the farm of his sister, Mrs. G.E. Doyle at Amissville. From the numerous stings, he became ill and was rushed to Fauquier Hospital where he stayed overnight.
