“The course is flat and that presents a problem,” said Spieker, whose 1984 team finished second in the Bull Run District, fifth at the Region B meet and eighth in Group A. “When the team travels to other schools that have steep hills on their courses, we can’t climb them.”
Which also marks a very definite change in the makeup of the Rappahannock runners, where the ability to run well on hilly courses has been a trademark for years.
Another new look on the team is the absence of three of the team’s top four runners from a year ago. However, as Spieker said, “There is always someone coming along to replace them.”
