“I am concerned that we would be setting a precedent if we approve the request, and then we’d have to let the other firm (Buckley-Lages) have an extension if they want one,” White said.
Otis Stever, the project’s resident inspector, told the members that Buckley-Lages is close to being on schedule. “Two-fifths of the lines are down and, in eight months, the main line should be in,” said Stever.
Wayne Cilimberg, executive director of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning Commission in Culpeper, said that the delay has been discussed with both contractors and both understand the reasons for any extension the Authority might grant.
“We don’t know whether the contract states that they’re allowed time started at their construction start date or when the contract was issued,” said Authority member Clifford Miller. “Since there’s that question and other questions, I think we should table the request.”
