attended those events this year, there was something different about them. The crowds appeared smaller in many places. Their reception of the candidates was generally less enthusiastic, and their interest in bands and floats appeared to be notably more compelling than their concern with what Gov. Chuck Robb, the featured speakers and the candidates had to say to them.
Now this is not to say that the crowds dozed off. It’s just that the events lacked the zip and zing of the political fireworks of earlier years.
