A request by Perry Engineering for a two-month extension for completion of the Sperryville Sewage Plant was submitted to the Rappahannock Water and Sewer Authority at its meeting Sept. 5.
The plant was to be completed on Oct. 12, but the firm asked for a delay until Dec. 17 because of a late construction start. The firm asked that the WSA authorize a change of order form to reflect the new target date. The proposed change would then be sent to the State Water Control Board for approval.
WSA Chairman Bob Dennis said that a possible delay had been discussed before. “It was my understanding at that time that the delay would not affect the overall time lines and it won’t cost any more money,” Dennis said.
According to the contract with Perry Engineering, the WSA could assess liquidated damages against the firm for not meeting the target date.
“If the extension doesn’t affect the time lines, then I don’t see a reason to reject the request,” said WSA member Martin Woodard. Another member, James White, said that he had questions for the system’s engi
