Despite some threatening clouds and a few scattered raindrops which caused some anxiety Saturday morning, the second annual Sperryville Apple Harvest Celebration went off without a hitch last weekend.
“I’ll give it an A-plus!” Jimmy Swindler of Country Manor Gift Shop said enthusiastically. “We were as busy as we will be on the peak weekends for the fall colors, and the trees have hardly started to turn.” He added that “visitors really seemed to enjoy the Manor’s apple butter-making demonstration. That was a first for us, and was certainly the most successful presentation to the public which we have ever done.” i
Mr. Swindler said that several visitors remarked that they were suprised at the number of things to see and do all around Sperryville. Also, he said, several people mentioned the difference between the Sperryville celebration and some of the other fall events in the area, where an admission charge is levied, either by the person or carload. “They were amazed at the things they could do for free.”
“It was a really super weekend,” Phyllis Swindler agreed.
