“My life assets are invested here,” said Paul Brown, new resident at Massie’s Comer. It is a gorgeous view that encompasses the Lee property, he said. “And this beautiful woman . . . may have one horrible scar put on her face.”
Fodderstack resident Susan Babcock wrote the board that “it would be difficult to find another site with as many opposing landowners.” She asked that the Lee property be rejected as a sanitary landfill, maintaining “there are too many other options available.”
The proposed landfill is located in a densely populated area with the nearest residence just 1,500 feet away and others only 2,000 and 2,500 feet distant, Mr. Olsen noted. “This is not a remote section of the county.” And the site’s visibility from Fodderstack Road and Massies Corner will detract both from neighboring land values and from the scenic qualities so critical to the success of Rappahannock’s tourist business, he added.
