Deborah Flinchum for the Rappahannock News MRS. BETTY WOOD’S second year Home Economics class at Rappahannock County High School participated in an apple pie baking contest recently. A class-wide competition was held, then the best 12 pies were judged in the final contest. First place was awarded to Melissa Payne (left), Sandy Jenkins (center) took second prize, and Darlene Dodson placed third. Melissa went on to represent Rappahannock in the apple pie baking contest held at the 12th annual Apple Harvest Arts and Crafts Festival in Winchester September 20 and 21. Mrs. Wood said that the contest built her students’ enthusiasm and their culinary skills.
