Rappahannock County now boasts a Strange West Point connection — as in Phillip Strange; as in West Point, New York, home of the United States Military Academy, not West Point on Virginia’s Northern Neck.
The Castleton woodworker and cabinet maker recently hauled a crew of Rappahannock carpenters and a room’s worth of oak paneling to the military academy on the Hudson River. The paneling went up in the Admissions Center lounge, the room where prospective cadets are introduced to West Point.
Strange landed the job, a traditional restoration reminiscent of the early 1900s, through Evelyn Willis. Now a Washington resident, Mrs. Willis is an interior decorator who began her career at West Point where her husband was a professor
