Five students spent two weeks at UVA in the Enrichment Program. They were Kenneth Giles, Chris Moyles, Bryan Clark, Patrick O’Meara, and Keith Switzer. The students had to apply for acceptance to the program.
Keith Switzer selected Computer Programming and Arts and Humanities while there. He worked mainly on Logo in their computer class and made books of creative writing in the humanities class. He attended seminars on special topics. As a project, he did research on a topic, learned the material, and then taught others about it. “I wrote and directed a play called Freddy Frog and His Surprise Party. I think by going now I won’t get so homesick when I do go to college.” Keith enjoyed meeting new friends. He said the only bad thing was the food.
UVA was also the setting for the Young Writers Workshop. Doretha Butler and Heather Kilpatrick applied and were accepted to participate.
