Entering the
state fair

It’s hard to decide whether or not to enter the State Fair. When you get the book it is exciting to see the many things you can do. You have to narrow it down to what you are going to enter. You fill out the paper and send it in.
The work begins! Then you decide what things can be done ahead of time. If you have free time, it is taken up by getting ready for the Fair. It’s a time to work hard until it is time to turn everything in. Everything that is not perishable foods is turned in before the Fair starts. The baked items are turned in the day after the Fair starts. Some of these items are breads, cakes, candies and pies.
The door of the Youth Building closes at 10 a.m. so that the judges can begin their work. During the judging, it seems like it takes forever even though it only takes three hours. When you find out what you get, it’s very exciting.
